The easiest way to travel from Milos to Kimolos is usually the small local ferry from Pollonia to Psathi. The crossing takes about 25 minutes, you buy the local ticket at the port rather than online, and the boat carries foot passengers, motorbikes and cars. The detail that causes most confusion is that ferry-booking sites also show sailings from Adamas. Those are different inter-island services and are useful for different trips.

The Pollonia–Psathi ferry is bought locally. Online booking becomes useful when you are looking at a larger ferry from Adamas or continuing from Kimolos to another Cycladic island.

Pollonia vs Adamas: Which Ferry From Milos to Kimolos?

That distinction is more important than chasing the “fastest” result on a booking engine. Pollonia sits on the northeastern tip of Milos directly across from Kimolos; Adamas is Milos’ main ferry port on the opposite side of the island.

Milos to Kimolos Ferry Timetable in 2026

Osia Methodia changes the timetable through the season, sometimes more than once. I therefore check the official Pollonia–Psathi timetable for the exact travel date rather than relying on an old schedule.

The operator’s current schedule shows why Kimolos is easy as a day trip in season: there are multiple short crossings in both directions. As one example, the 14 September–5 October 2026 schedule lists Pollonia departures at 08:30, 09:45, 11:00, 14:30 and 17:45 on Monday and Tuesday. Weekend timings differ, with later first departures.

For a day trip, I care less about the number of sailings than about the return boat from Psathi. Choose the return first, leave yourself a comfortable margin, then choose the earliest Pollonia departure that suits you.

Can You Book the Pollonia to Kimolos Ferry Online?

No, not the local Osia Methodia service. The operator states that no ticket reservations are made. There are ticket offices at Pollonia and Psathi, so this is one of those Greek island crossings where the correct process really is to arrive at the port and buy locally.

If you find an online Milos–Kimolos ticket, check the departure port carefully. A bookable online result may be a larger ferry from Adamas rather than the local Pollonia boat.

Which Ferry Times Work Best for a Kimolos Day Trip From Milos?

The best day-trip strategy is simple: choose the Psathi → Pollonia return first. Your return sailing is the hard deadline. Once that is fixed, take a morning ferry from Pollonia that gives you enough time on Kimolos without forcing you to sprint back to the port.

During periods with a dense timetable, an early departure around 08:30–09:45 and a late-afternoon return can give you most of a day on Kimolos. On dates with fewer sailings, the usable window can be much shorter.

Can You Take a Car or Motorbike From Milos to Kimolos?

Yes. Osia Methodia is a small car ferry, and the official fare list includes motorbikes and cars. Bringing wheels can be useful if you are staying on Kimolos or want to reach places beyond Psathi and Chorio.

The ferry is not the problem; your Milos rental agreement may be. Some rental companies restrict taking their vehicles on ferries or change the insurance conditions once the vehicle leaves Milos. Ask for written permission before boarding with a rental car, quad or scooter.

If the company says no, go as a foot passenger. For a simple day trip centered on Psathi and Chorio, you do not need to bring a vehicle.

How to Get to Pollonia Port for the Kimolos Ferry

Pollonia is on the northeastern side of Milos, directly opposite Kimolos. From Adamas or the Plaka area, allow roughly 20–30 minutes by car depending on where you start and traffic.

You can reach Pollonia by rental car, taxi or seasonal bus. If you are relying on the bus, check the current Milos bus timetable against the ferry rather than assuming the connection will line up.

What Is the Pollonia–Psathi Ferry Crossing Like?

The crossing is short and functional rather than a “ferry experience.” Osia Methodia is a local car ferry: vehicles load via the ramp and foot passengers board separately. Kimolos stays visibly close across the channel, and the scheduled crossing is generally about 25 minutes.

In calm conditions it is an easy hop. When the meltemi strengthens, the narrow channel can become choppy and the short ride feels much more exposed.

Arriving at Psathi Port in Kimolos

Osia Methodia arrives at Psathi, Kimolos’ main port. This is a small harbor rather than a large ferry terminal, so arrival is simple. Tavernas, cafés, a small beach and some accommodation are close to the landing point.

Chorio, the island’s main village, sits uphill from Psathi and is reachable on foot or by local transport when available. If your goal is just to experience Psathi and Chorio on a day trip, arriving without a car is completely workable.

Kimolos Day Trip or Overnight Stay?

A day trip works because the ferry crossing is so short. It is enough to get a feel for Kimolos without moving accommodation from Milos. But the ferry timetable will always define the day, and you will be watching the return time.

What Happens to the Milos–Kimolos Ferry When It Is Windy?

Strong wind can delay, alter or cancel the local crossing. The operator explicitly states that itineraries may change without notice, and that matters most when the meltemi is strong.

Check the official timetable again the day before departure and again on the morning of travel if conditions look unsettled. Larger Adamas ferries can sometimes offer another option, but I would not treat them as a guaranteed backup because they run on completely separate schedules.

Continuing From Kimolos to Other Cyclades Islands

Kimolos also appears on some inter-island ferry routes, but those connections are much less useful if your only goal is the short Milos–Kimolos hop. This is where the larger bookable ferries matter more than Osia Methodia.

If you are continuing to another island rather than returning to Milos, compare the full route before locking in accommodation. That is the use case where I would check Direct Ferries for bookable schedules and then verify the operator details for the exact sailing.

For a simple two-island trip, Pollonia → Psathi and back remains much easier than building an onward itinerary around an occasional direct connection.

My Recommendation

For a normal Milos-to-Kimolos transfer or day trip, I would use Pollonia → Psathi. It is the route designed for the two neighboring islands, it takes about 25 minutes, and there is no reason to complicate it with a larger Adamas ferry unless that ferry genuinely fits your wider itinerary better.

The part worth planning carefully is not the crossing itself. It is the return time. Check the current Osia Methodia timetable, choose your Psathi return first, buy the local ticket at the port and leave enough margin for wind or schedule changes.
